Are Credit Cards A Necessary Evil

With the fast paced society of today it appears to be unavoidable to possess some credit cards. It’s pretty much essential if you require hotel accommodation or an auto rental. If internet purchases are made then credit cards, rather than sending a check, can speed up the delivery of your purchase.
Not everybody however can qualify for credit and with requirements for some credit cards becoming extra scrupulous, it is becoming increasingly harder for those with less than immaculate credit scores to obtain one. There are companies making them available with higher interest rates and other charges, but many believe the extra cost is not worth the availability of card.
Carrying credit cards can act as a financial back up for unforeseen emergencies or large expenses and can offer you a feeling of financial security beside the benefit of you not having to carry large sums of money about you. For those that discharge their monthly account completely they will not be charged interest by most companies. For those large purchases a structure of low minimum monthly payments coupled with a long term arrangement with a credit company can be of some benefit.
The Trick Is Staying Within Your Credit Limits
There is no secret to maintaining your credit health. Staying below the limit on your card and making monthly payments on time will keep you in good graces with the credit companies. Settling the account when it is received will keep the cost of using credit cards to a minimum. By maintaining your reputation for making your payments on time will give a great boost to your credit rating.
There are fees that card users may not be aware of when they charge purchases, generally paid by the seller, assessed by the card companies for the retailer to offer the convenience of credit cards to their customers. Fees range from a half-percent to as high as two percent, tacked onto the whole purchase charge and charged to the merchant. Retailers will generally figure this into the cost of doing business and the cost is part of the price they charge for products or services.
So in conclusion although it can be very easy to over stretch ourselves and get into debt, with willpower we can overcome the temptation to over spend on our credit cards and use them intelligently to run our financial lives very cost effectively. A definite boon for when our salary does not quite stretch to the next pay day.
